K3SD uses a dual-licensing model: an open-source license for the Community edition, and commercial licenses for Pro and Enterprise.

License Overview

Business Source License 1.1 (Community Edition)

The K3SD Community edition source code is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1).

What this means

• You can use K3SD Community freely to monitor your own clusters — personal, commercial, or enterprise.
• You can view, fork, and modify the source code.
• You can contribute back to the project.
• You cannot offer K3SD (or a modified version) as a competing monitoring service or product without a separate commercial agreement.

Change Date

On April 1, 2030 (4 years from the initial release), the source code covered by this BSL will automatically convert to the Apache License 2.0, a fully permissive open-source license.

Additional Use Grant

You may use the Licensed Work for any purpose except offering it as a commercial Kubernetes monitoring product or service that competes with K3SD.

  The Business Source License (this document, or the
  "License") is not an Open Source license. However,
  the Licensed Work will eventually be made available
  under an Open Source License, as stated in this
  License.

Commercial License (Pro & Enterprise)

Pro and Enterprise editions are licensed under a commercial agreement with Jensen & Miles SARL. The commercial license grants:

• Access to all Pro or Enterprise features as defined in your plan
• Right to deploy on the number of clusters specified in your agreement
• Support as defined by your tier (email for Pro, dedicated channel with SLA for Enterprise)
• Updates and patches for the duration of your subscription or license term

Third-Party Licenses

K3SD incorporates open-source components. A complete list of third-party licenses is available in the THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES file included with each release.
